Last saturday in Lagos, celebrities from all walks of life converged on the expansive premises of British Int School, Lekki to celebrate with Olorogun Oscar Ibru who attained the age of 50..below are some of the faces at the one-in-town shindig..
Olorogun Ibru cutting the cake with his famly Dr. Tunde Soleye stepping into the venue with his wife Nike Osinowo-Soleye..inspite of several criticsms from those who thought their relationship won't be able to stand, the duo has remained inseperable Obaro Ibru in full swing..Obaro once won the St Moritz most stylish Nigerian guy some years back..but some people think the guy is not the dandiest dresser in town.. now, i dont know what to believe cos im not a fashion & style analyst..so it's up you folks to help do justice to Obaro's much talked about sense of fashion

9ICE SET TO BAG CHIEFTAINCY TITLE
Gongo-Aso crooner, Abolore Adegbola Akande a.k.a 9ICE is about to become a chieftaincy title holder. METROGIST-NIGERIA gathered that 9ice have been nominated for the title of Amuludun of Oshogboland by His Royal Majesty, Oba Iyiola Matanmi, The Ataoja of Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. Gist reaching us indicates that 9ice is being honoured with the title for his proficiency in the use of Yoruba proverbs smoothly in his lyrics. The installation comes up very soon and thereafter, be ready address him as “Chief 9ice”. The guy, who shot into national limelight with his super hit song, Gongo Aso has been ruling the Nigerian airwaves for quite a while now. However, it is not yet clear whether Mr 9ICE has accepted the offer or not, It is also not yet clear whether his wife, beautiful Toni, will also be installed as Yeye Amulundun of Oshogbo, as it is the practice these days in the south west Nigeria. Let’s wait and watch sha!

NIGERIAN STARS DOMINATE CHANNEL O’s AWARD LIST

Nigeria’s final take-over of the Africa’s entertainment scene is about to be confirmed again, this time in Nelson Mandela’s own land. Feelers reaching METROGIST-NIGERIA indicate that, the list of nominees for the forthcoming 2008 Channel O’s music video awards is dominated by Nigerian acts. The awards, known as the SPIRIT OF AFRICA MUSIC VIDEO AWARD has the likes of D’Banj, 2Face, Psqure, Asa, Sasha, Naeto C, Ikechukwu, KC Phresh, Face, Baba Dee, Mo hits, Dae Art-Alade and others as nominees for various categories. The award proper comes up in October 9, 2008 in South Africa

JAMIU MKO-ABIOLA SURVIVES DEADLY CANCER
Alhaji Jamiu, one of the sons of the late Bashorun MKO Abiola, “the posthumous winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential elections” in Nigeria, has reasons to thank Allah recently. Heard that Jamiu, who lost both parents (his mum is the late Kudirat Abiola) to the June 12 struggle almost died as a result of a disease diagnosed as cancer in his body. But thank God for His mercy, the guy survived after a series of surgical operations both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. He is now alive and kicking.

KC PHRESH’S MUM CRITICALLY ILL
KC PHRESH is a prominent hip hop music duo in Nigeria. Some of their recent hits include “Sengemenge” and “Sokori”. But right now, everything seems not to be ‘sengemenge’ with the guys at all. METROGIST-NIGERIA scooped that the mother of KC (the taller one), is critically down with the dreaded decease called diabetes and all efforts to get her treated seem not to be yielding much result. Because of this, KC is said to be making plans to fly her abroad for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the new album from KC PHRESH, entitled GET READY, which was released on August 1st, 2008 is said to be doing well already while the musical video for two tracks in the album, “You said you love me” and “My only desire” are also ready for the air waves.

JUJU SINGER, ADE OLUSAYO IS DEAD
Notable Juju music singer in Nigeria, Adewale Olusayo is dead. METROGIST-NIGERIA gathered that the King Sunny Ade sing-alike gave up the ghost in his home in Ota, Ogun state suburb, on Monday August 11,2008 after a protracted battle with an undisclosed illness. Popularly known as President Ade Olusayo, his debut album entitled MESSAGE was released in 1995. He died at 56, may his soul rest in peace.

OJEMBA PRESENTER, CHRIS ANOKURU IS ALSO DEAD
Top Igbo broadcaster, Chief Chris Anokuru has also joined his ancestors. The late Anokuru was the presenter of the popular Igbo language society programme OJEMBA, on Africa Independent Television (AIT), in Nigeria. Chris, aged 47, was claimed by acute diabetes on August 5. He is survived by his wife and children

GBENGA X-ADEBIJA LOSES MUM

Ex-Cadbury Nigeria topshot, Gbenga X-Adebija is bereaved..his mum MRS JULIANA ADEBIJA passed on to greater glory yesterday.She was aged 65..
The late virtous woman was born Feb 8 1943 in Okene. After her education, she married Peter Adebija and together raised their five children including the Managing Director & Chief Executive of Ashton & Layton, Gbenga X-Adebija.She was a successful business woman in ilorin as well as devoted wife and loving mother. A devout Roman Catholic, she was an active member of the Catholic Women Organisation(CWO), St Theresa's Society and Board of Church Wardens. One of her children, Fr Nicholas Adebija is a Roman Catholic priest.She died in Lagos on 9th August 2008, a day after what would have been her 49th wedding anniversary. Interestingly, her husband, Peter Adebija, died as a Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Kwara State Civil Service on 28th August 1988..MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE
Gbenga was the PR Executive of Cadbury Nig. Plc until early last year when he 'stepped aside' voluntarily after 15 years of meritorious service to set up his own multi media firm known as ASHTON & LAYTON.Apart from being a columnist with THISDAY ON SUNDAY, he is also the author of the book THE MAGNIFICAT, which is also available on his website www.gbengaadebija.com

PARTY in Nigeria and the General Overseer of The Household of God Church,(Lagos), Rev.Chris Okotie(50) began the process of formalising his relationship with the woman that stole his heart, Stephanie Henshaw, in a colourful traditional wedding in Ikoyi, Lagos,yesterday Aug. 7,2008. With this latest development,what started like a mere gossip has now metamorphorsed into a reality before our very eyes.Stephanie is one of the numerous beautiful sisters who worship at Rev. Okotie's church in Oregun area of Lagos.Said to be twice married with 3 kids, her current adventure with Rev Okotie is her 3rd attempt at marriage.Okotie on his part was once married to Tyna,his first love, for 17 years before they parted ways in 2001 when Tyna relocated to the US and refused to come back to Nigeria. The union did not produce any issue while it lasted.

In 2007 when the Greek-speaking man of God vied for Nigeria's presidency on the platform of FRESH PARTY, which he solely formed and financed, he was constantly at the receiving of various verbal attacks from those who believe that a 'bachelor' is not morally qualified to rule Nigeria , but now that Okotie is finally married, the story certainly has to change.
